CLS 452 Advanced Clinical Chemistry Practicum 3 cr.

CLS 453 Advanced Clinical Immunohematology Practicum 4 cr.

CLS 454 Advanced Clinical Microbiology Practicum 4 cr.

This class is part of a supervised, full-time, 12-month clinical practicum in an accredited cytotechnology program. It includes tissue preparation and staining techniques; microscopic study of cellular alterations indicative of cancer, pre-cancerous conditions, bacterial, viral and parasitic infections; and hormonal abnormalities. The practicum is represented by CLS 250C, CLS 480, CLS 481, CLS 482, CLS 483, CLS 484 and CLS 485.
CLS 481 Tissue Cytology I 8 cr.

Includes female genital tract.

CLS 489 ASCP Certification Exam Preparation 2 cr.  (2-0-0)

  • Prerequisites: Earned 12 credits of CLS 400 level classes with grades “C” or better.

Comprehensive preparation for the American Society of Clinical Pathology Medical Laboratory Scientist certification examination. This course is designed to provide global campus students with equivalent didactic knowledge that conventional students acquire during a supervised clinical practicum and assist them in preparing for the national certification exam.

CLS 498 Directed Studies in Clinical Laboratory Science 1-4 cr.

Individual directed study in a clinically related topic. Students study topics through research projects, independent reading and/or a written paper.

May apply only to a baccalaureate degree program with the approval of the student’s major department. Usually elected only once.
