AUT 105 Automotive Mathematics 4 cr.  (4-0-0)

This course will introduce students to various applied technical math concepts required to analyze and study topics of the automotive field. Topics will include fractions, precision measurement, algebra, geometry, graphs, and statistics. Topics are presented at the introductory level with an emphasis on applications.

AUT 110 Powertrain Fundamentals 2 cr.  (1-0-2)

  • Prerequisites: AUT 100 or concurrent enrollment.

This course will provide an introductory study of the theory, maintenance, and service of powertrain systems specifically required for entry-level employment.

AUT 140 Steering and Suspension Fundamentals 2 cr.  (1-0-3)
  • Offered: Fall
  • Prerequisites: AUT 100 or concurrent enrollment.

Introduction to the theory, maintenance, and service of the steering and suspension systems used on today’s cars and light trucks. Units of instruction include wheels and tires, conventional linkage, rack and pinion, control arm, and strut chassis systems.

AUT 150 Automotive Brake Fundamentals 2 cr.  (1-0-3)

  • Prerequisites: AUT 100 or concurrent enrollment.

Introduction to the theory, diagnosis, and repair of automotive brake systems including drum, disk, and hydraulic applications found on domestic and import automobiles and light trucks.

AUT 164 Engine Repair 4 cr.  (2-0-6)
  • Offered: Fall
  • Prerequisites: AUT 100 or concurrent enrollment in AUT 100 and AUT 110.

A course in the service, repair and design principles of gasoline and light diesel engines. Units include operating principles, systems and design of major engine components.

AUT 166 Manual Drive Trains and Axles 4 cr.  (2-0-6)
  • Offered: Winter
  • Prerequisites: AUT 100 and AUT 170 or taken concurrently.

A course in the theory, service and repair of power train components used in passenger cars and light trucks. Units of instruction include standard transmissions, drive lines, axles, transaxles, differentials and four-wheel drive systems.

AUT 170 Electrical/Electronic Systems I 4 cr.  (2-0-4)
  • Offered: Winter
  • Prerequisites: "C" or better in AUT 100 or concurrent enrollment.

This course will cover electrical fundamentals, circuit design types, circuit components, calculations, diagnostic testing tools and meters, wiring diagrams, batteries, charging systems, and cranking systems.

AUT 230 Heating and Air Conditioning 4 cr.  (2-0-4)
  • Offered: Winter
  • Prerequisites: AUT 100 and AUT 170.

This course will provide an in-depth study of automotive heating and air conditioning systems including theory of operation, diagnosis and repair.  Electronic climate control systems will also be covered.

AUT 250 Advanced Automotive Braking 2 cr.  (1-0-3)

  • Prerequisites: AUT 150 and completion or current enrollment in AUT 100.

An advanced study of the theory, diagnosis, and repair of automotive braking systems including hydraulically assisted, antilock, and electronically controlled brake applications found on domestic and import automobiles and light trucks. 

AUT 260 Automatic Transmission and Transaxle 4 cr.  (2-0-6)
  • Offered: Fall
  • Prerequisites: AUT 100 with a "C" or better and AUT 170.

A study into automatic transmissions, their components and systems. Instruction is provided in the repair, service and diagnostic procedures used in servicing vehicle automatic transmissions.

AUT 262 Engine Performance I 4 cr.  (2-0-6)
  • Offered: Fall
  • Prerequisites: "C" or better in AUT 100, AUT 164 and AUT 170, or concurrent enrollment.

This course is designed to provide students with knowledge and skill in engine mechanical, ignition, fuel, and computer control related systems service, diagnosis, and repair.

AUT 264 Engine Performance II 4 cr.  (2-0-6)
  • Offered: Winter
  • Prerequisites: "C" or better in both AUT 100 and AUT 262.

This course is designed to provide students with advanced knowledge and skill in engine mechanical, ignition, fuel, and computer control related systems service, diagnosis, and repair.

AUT 268 Automotive Service Repair 4 cr.  (2-0-6)
  • Offered: Winter
  • Prerequisites: ALL AUT courses or remaining taken concurrently.

This course gives students the opportunity and skills necessary to service many of the automotive systems. Emphasis is placed on automotive system theory and application of theoretical information.

AUT 272 Electrical/Electronic Systems II 4 cr.  (2-0-4)
  • Offered: Fall
  • Prerequisites: AUT 100 grade "C" or better, and AUT 170 grade "C" or better.

This course gives students the opportunity to develop the technical knowledge and skills necessary to diagnose and service modern automotive electrical systems. Emphasis will be placed on electrical testing techniques and the use of test equipment.

AUT 291 Automotive Service Repair Internship 4 cr.  (2-0-6)
  • Offered: Winter
  • Prerequisites: ALL AUT courses or remaining taken concurrently.

Students participating in the internship are responsible for finding a position working under a master technician for a minimum of eight hours per week for 15 weeks. The student is required to attend the lecture segment of the class and meet all other requirements of the course syllabus.
