Susan Werner Opens Northern Nights Series

            MARQUETTE, Mich.—Northern Nights, the performing arts series of Northern Michigan University, will kick off the 2012-13 season with Chicago-based singer-songwriter Susan Werner. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 7, at NMU’s Forest Roberts Theatre. The Goldmine Girls, a local folk duo composed of sisters Gentian and RiLee Waller, will open for Werner.

Prices are: students/kids $2 advance/$4 door; NMU faculty/staff/seniors 60+ $10/$12 door; general public, $15/$17; and family passes for two adults and up to three children, $30 (advance only).

With nine albums released, an active touring career and a string of accolades, Susan Werner has become one of the defining artists of the folk music genre. Her songs effortlessly slide between folk, jazz and pop. They are delivered with wit and Midwestern charm.
