NMU Holds Bone Marrow Registration Drive

Wednesday 13, 2013

MARQUETTE, Mich.—The Northern Michigan University Volunteer Center will sponsor a “Be the Match” bone marrow registration drive. The drive will run from 5-9 p.m. Tuesday, March 19, in the Payne/Halverson lobby and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday, March 20, in the University Center Atrium. Registration is free and the procedure is painless and quick, requiring only a cheek swab to be entered into the national registry.

Participants could prove to be a match for someone suffering from one of 70 different diseases. Even if matched, choosing to donate bone marrow is entirely voluntary. But if a donor chooses to do so their time and medical bills are compensated.

For more information, contact the NMU Volunteer center at 906-227-2466 or volctr@nmu.edu.
