St. Ignace Student Receives Scholarship

Thursday 13, 2013

MARQUETTE, Mich. — Jaici Shiemke of St. Ignace received the James J. Allen Scholarship for her upcoming studies at Northern Michigan University. She plans to pursue a degree in graphic design.

The scholarship was created by Allen to provide financial support for graduates of LaSalle High School in St. Ignace who enroll in a baccalaureate degree program at NMU. The scholarship provides the student with $7,000 a year, which is renewable for a maximum of four years.

“Being awarded this scholarship is extremely valuable toward realizing my career goals,” Shiemke said. “This scholarship will allow me to concentrate on my studies and less on the financial strains of attending college for four years.”

The scholarship was established in 2012 and the first award was given to Andrea Perry, an NMU art and design major specializing in electronic imaging.
