The Northern Michigan University Center for Native American Studies will host a presentation on Running Medicine on Friday, April 20, followed by a run/walk on Saturday, April 21. Both events are free and open to the public.

Dr. Anthony Fleg will present on Running Medicine at 7 p.m. Friday, April 20, in 136 Whitman Hall. The presentation will discuss the cultural, mental and spiritual aspects of running. Refreshments will be available following the presentation.

On Saturday, April 21, a run/walk will take place. Any interested participants are asked to meet in 136 Whitman Hall at 10 a.m. In the event of poor weather conditions, the run/walk will move to the Superior Dome.

According to runningmedicine.com, “Running medicine is based on the understanding that running and exercise is a beautiful and potent medicine for mind, body and spirit.”

The event is supported by the Sault Tribe Good Health and Wellness in Indian Country Grant. Funding for the event was also received from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention.
