Graphic Design Inspiration

As a College, NMUGS&R takes inspiration from the cultures and surroundings that make us who we are. Our visual identity was developed in partnership with C-90 and NMU's Center for Native American Studies.

NMU is located on the ancestral and contemporary homelands of the Anishinaabe Three Fires Confederacy. Our program pays respect to the Anishinaabe people by embracing the imagery, artistry, and ethos of the culture.

Amy Munes - Biology

"I am a non-traditional student who has worked 10 years as an avian field technician prior to attending graduate school at NMU. What initially attracted me to NMU was the steller location, but mostly, it was Alec Lindsay's robust common loon blood sample collection, his interest in conservation genetics, and I wanted to learn techniques I had never experienced before. For my graduate thesis I am looking at different factors that might impact common loon blood telomere lengths, such as methylmercury, age, and sibling status. Graduate school has been challenging but my graduate committee, classes, and the opportunity to acquire financial assistance through grants helped set me up for success. I am scheduled to graduate with my masters degree this fall."
